It started with a simple plan: one treat, one decoy, and one highly dramatic Chihuahua named Rocco.
Rocco lives for food. Crinkling a snack wrapper is like summoning a furry tornado—ears up, eyes wide, paws tapping with excitement. So naturally, we decided to test his loyalty… with a little food prank.
The setup was simple: real treat in one hand, a piece of lettuce in the other. We hyped him up, made a big show of “choosing the perfect treat,” and slowly handed him the lettuce with a smile.
Cue betrayal.
Rocco sniffed it once, stepped back, and gave me the most offended look I’ve ever seen on a dog. His eyes narrowed. His tail dropped. He spat the lettuce out like it was poison and dramatically stomped away like, “You dare insult me with salad?”
But the prank didn’t stop there. We tried a piece of carrot. A green bean. Even a fake chew toy disguised as a treat. Every time, Rocco acted like we had committed the ultimate crime. The side-eyes got sharper. The dramatic sighs louder. At one point, he literally turned his back on us and sat facing the wall like he needed to recover emotionally.
Of course, we gave him the real treat in the end. One sniff, and all was forgiven. Tail wagging, pride restored, Rocco reclaimed his title as snack king.
